TO PREFER LOOSE LEAF HERBS
There are so many reasons to use and love loose leaf herbs and teas. Here are ours:
Most commercial tea bags are made with dust and fannings – the small particles left over after the quality parts have been used.
Loose-leaf herbs and teas are usually freshly packed and sealed to keep in that freshness then quickly brought to stores. Teabags are produced in large quantities and stored in warehouses or shelves for long periods of time.
You can touch, see, and smell the leaves before, so you know what you are getting and drinking.
Teabags with full leaves are often too small for the leaves to fully open, so most of the essential oils and nutrients aren’t being released. Also, most tea bags contain glue, bleaches, chemicals or metal that can be harmful.
Even environmentally friendly tea bags are usually only seventy to eight percent biodegradable, so the remaining 20+ percent doesn’t break down. When you consider that the wrappings around each tea bag typically ends up in the ocean or our water systems, the environmental impact is very concerning.
When the whole plant part remains intact, the full flavor of the herb is released.
Per ounce, the cost of loose leaf herbs and teas are cheaper. While tea bags are one and done, loose leaves can be steeped multiple times and the flavor profile changes with each brew. Many people like the second or third brewing even better.
Strengthen local economies
Most producers of quality loose leaf herbs and teas are small businesses that help make local communities vibrant.
